Shadow
Shadow’s favorite location to visit became my parents’ home. Not yet six months old, she discovered flowers. Amongst the many varieties, Shadow loved purple ones. We never knew if it was the color or the fragrance. We guessed it must have been the color because she went from one to another sniffing each in turn. Using the same variety of flower, though different in color, she would choose the purple ones. This probably should have been a clue to us she could distinguish colors, but we didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. As we waited in anticipation for the pizza delivery person to ring the door bell, we suddenly heard the distinctive ding-dong. Shadow immediately sprang to her feet and jumped at the window where she frantically stood on back legs incessantly barking. I sat in stunned disbelief as Shadow nearly launched herself through the window. Our gentle giant appeared to be possessed by an instant evil spirit. With each thump and scraping of dog nails upon the window, I quickly reached her, grabbed her collar and began attempting to pull her away from the window. Away, she remained barking, but slightly calmed down. I questioned why so aggressively had she acted in such a manner. In the next few minutes the answer was revealed. The delivery person had been sporting blue hair. Here was the proof I needed that Shadow did, indeed, see colors. Schia Von Der Korperkraft April 28, 2009
Schia certification SCHIA On July 27, 2007 from Georgia to Montana one eight week old, gorgeous rottweiler puppy helped heal overwhelming emotions associated with the unexpected loss of a beloved part of our family, our four and a half year old Rottweiler named Shadow. Some have asked about her name. It is pronounced Sky-a and was given to her because she was not the original breed of dog I, Teresa, was looking at when she became our choice for a new puppy. Schia, though I would not change a thing now, was a puppy that came to us only a few weeks after Shadow’s passing. Originally I was looking at the Schipperke breed. Schia was the name I had chosen. One for the first four letters S, C, H and I. I simply added the letter A to the end. It was after thinking about those letters that I realized beginning with the S, every other letter then began the letters for Shadow. No matter what breed of puppy was next, Schia had to be the name. House trained in three days, Schia was muscled bound, loving to run in the yard, and sleeping on the floor only if a small fan was in front of her. A quick learner and a bundle of energy, she soon was whining in the window watching huge snowflakes fall. She tunneled in the new snow often coming in with what looked like snow drifts on the top of her nose. The snow lasted a long time, even into April. Being the rambunctious puppy she was, it was decided she would attend obedience classes though she already knew basic commands such as “sit” and “stay”. A few weeks into class she was winning small rewards and graduation day brought her the “Top Dog” award. A very intelligent dog, Schia has never been taught any commands for walking with people having eyesight troubles. She will find the easiest path for one to walk by stopping at corners, finding the lowest points on the sidewalks or even going down the street a bit to find the driveway to reach the sidewalk before she continues on. Almost comical, she will also notice every crack in the sidewalk and stop if it is above an inch high. Ever the protector, Shia has also been commended for standing her ground, or rather sitting on the feet of the person she is with, as other dogs have been within five feet of threatening actions. Because she did not pass certification of hips and elbows, we use as our standards when breeding, Schia was spayed, but remains an integral part of the family by holding a new role. Introduced to new puppies, Schia knows nothing else, but to be that ever loving playmate and step-mother. Schia also holds the role of a true spoiled Rottweiler. The following Rottweiler Rules sincerely apply with her.
Rottweiler Rules 1. The rottweiler is not allowed in the house.
2. Okay, the Rottweiler is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms.

Schia is placed within the Part of My Heart page because she will always hold a special connection with Shadow. the little muscle bound puppy that put her paws on my shoulders and laid her head down, the very first time I held her, captured my heart right then and there and only has strengthened the hold with ever loving, loyal, sometimes frustrating heart warming moments.
